Q: Drizzt and Guenhwyvar are two of the most recognizable characters in Dungeons & Dragons history. Was there a lot of pressure when approaching the design of these figures?
JENNA: Instead of feeling pressure, I was excited to tackle such iconic characters! We worked very closely with our partners at WotC and Tuque Games, so we knew from day one they’d help us get every detail right. It loved delving into the rich lore, and it’s always exciting to be part of a project with characters that mean so much to so many people.
Q: These two characters form a dynamic team that works in support of each other to overcome unimaginable odds. Can you talk a little about how you came together as a team to make these figures a reality?
JENNA: We’re so fortunate to work with such a big group of talented people every time we create a toy here, but the stars definitely aligned on this project. Scott oversaw the project and brought his amazing knowledge of Drizzt lore. I’m a big Dungeons & Dragons fan and focused on developing a premium product that included lots of elements for fans to get really excited about. Melissa dove into the details and brought everything to life with her incredible industrial design skills. And of course there are so many other people that lent their extraordinary talents to this project!
Q: With over a century of adventuring behind him, Drizzt has certainly gone through some visual changes over the years. What were some of the details from his history you felt were must-haves on this figure?
<MJ can speak to this>
Q: Drizzt wields two legendary swords, Twinkle and Icingdeath. For those not familiar with these enchanted blades, can you talk a little about them?
<MJ and/or Scott can speak to this>
Q: Guenhwyvar can be summoned when Drizzt is in danger or in need of help. During the design process, did any of you have a Guenhwyvar you leaned on to overcome challenges that arose?
JENNA: As soon as we jumped into this project, I ran around the office speaking with as many Dungeons & Dragons players as I could find. I wanted to make sure we put together something exciting for all our D&D and Drizzt fans! I hope that all of those folks can see their fingerprint in this product, and I’m so grateful for their eagerness to share their thoughts and ideas from the very beginning.
Q: Drizzt is a complex character with a background that’s been laid out over thousands of pages, spanning 32 years of publications. What were some memorable things you discovered about him during this process?
JENNA: I enjoyed learning more about his magical abilities – I can’t help but play arcane classes whenever I roll up a new D&D character! I spent some time thinking about how to create a globe of magical impenetrable darkness in an action figure, but never quite figured it out.
